BIOMECHANICS OF SKELETAL DEVELOPMENT

Biomechanical models of zebrafish allow us to compare the effect of differences in shape derived from genetic mutations, against material properties.

We recreate muscle forces and loading in zebrafish specimens using finite element analysis (FEA).

BIOMECHANICAL MODELS

Biomechanical analyses of zebrafish skeletal tissues are helping us understand the impact of the lack of certain gene mutations on cell behaviour and mechanical performance during skeleton development.

Differences in shape and material properties arising from these mutations impact on joint function and mechanical performance.

Finite Element Analyses (FEA) measure mechanical performance when these differences are modelled.
